LGBCL-Business Category List

Version 1.00

Description

The Local Government Business Category List (LGBCL) is a list defining categorising businesses by sector. The list was developed by the Working With Business (WWB) national project for use within the business descriptor of WWB software. It is similar in structure to the draft list issued by the Small Business Service and other lists used by local government initiatives that WWB reviewed. Migration to one list with SBS support is proposed. The list may be used as a 'scheme' for populating the e-GMS 'subject.category' element for business related resources (in addition to Government Category List values). Business categories are mapped to Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes and to Local Government Service List services.

XSD and RDFS schemas are subject to modification following definition of standards by the e-Government Unit Metadata Technical Working Group and the W3C taxonomy group. In the event of changes, we shall endeavour to support the formats given as legacy formats.

XML files

LGBCL version 1.00 was released on 31 March 2004:

LGBCL version 1.01/2.00 has a submissions deadline of 2 January 2009 and has a planned release date of 2 February 2009.

This XML file is the official version. The file is still considered to be a draft because there is extensive discussion in the local government community about that and LAWs is eager to accommodate a wide ranger of requirements. It is likely that the format of lgbcl.xml will not be subject to much further revision. However component files from which lgbcl.xml is constructed may be revised.
