IPSV-Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary Internal Vocabulary

Version 2.00

Description

The Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary (IPSV) is an 'encoding scheme' for populating the e-GMS Subject element. It is fully compliant with ISO 2788 and BS 8723 the International and British Standards for monolingual thesauri. The vocabulary was developed with the backing of the ODPM (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) and the eGU (Cabinet Office e-Government Unit). Version 1.00 was released in April 2005; Version 2.00 supersedes it, as of 3 April 2006.

The scope of IPSV Version 1.00 was limited to citizen-facing topics, such as community information and the services provided by public sector bodies. In Version 2.00 the scope is expanded to cover 'internal-facing' subjects, such as human resource management, finance and internal communications.

Five local authorities led and financed the expansion project:

  • Leicestershire County Council
  • London Borough of Islington
  • London Borough of Lewisham
  • Surrey County Council
  • West Sussex County Council

Here you can see the outcome of the project. The Internal Vocabulary is a subset of the full IPSV selected to help organisations manage their internal information resources. You can see the hierarchical tree structure online through the Interactive Viewer, or download it in any of the formats listed below - just follow the links.

The Internal Vocabulary has a total of 756 preferred terms and 1333 non-preferred terms.

Please use the IPSV Internal Vocabulary Discussion Forum (see link below) to provide feedback and see what others say. Suggestions for amendments needed in the next update should be submitted by 15 September 2006.
