Led by local partnerships, Local Information Systems (LIS) collect, store and disseminate information to support local decision-making and citizen empowerment. These webpages provide a place for public sector staff to access and exchange support, advice, learning and resources on local information systems.
This network of LIS staff is supported by Communities and Local Government and is informed by the April 2006 CLG report: Local Information Systems: A review of their role, characteristics and benefits Use our LIS forum to discuss issues of relevance to local information systems, ask questions or for help, and make suggestions. Please e-mail support@esd.org.uk if you need any assistance accessing the forum. There is also a Community of Practice to discuss the integration of performance and research with LIS. Access the CoP here: http://www.communities.idea.gov.uk/c/1375837/home.do We are eager to hear your views and suggestions about what you would like to gain from the network, so don't hesitate to contact Rachel Moreton or Robert Rutherfoord at Communities and Local Government.
NEWS!
The Local Information Systems development tool is available to download. This is an interactive tool to support local authorities and their partners to develop or update their LIS. The tool guides users through identifying strategic needs, scoping and planning, and monitoring and evaluation your LIS. The tool has captured the experience and knowledge of existing LIS and stakeholders to provide useful advice and reference materials. Developing a formal LIS association At the last LIS networking meeting there was a discussion about the need for a more formal, independent, national LIS group or association. A number of volunteers came forward to sit on a working group to develop this idea. A draft set of terms of reference have been produced, and the group are now exploring options for affiliation. Please contact Rachel Moreton in the first instance for further information.
