As Local Authorities are being asked to join up and deliver services across what was normally considered organisational boundaries, there is a corresponding need to expand the Local Government Services List to encompass these new processes. The LGSL is a standardised controlled list recognised by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as the standard measure of council services for Implementing Electronic Government (IEG) reporting http://www.esd.org.uk/standards/lgsl
In order to quantify, measure success and decide who and how a service is delivered it is necessary to list those individual instances of contact with the public in a standard format, which can be used and recognised by all partners. This type of listing already exists for the services that Local Government provides but now needs to be enhanced to include services delivered in partnership. This will eventually allow the Local Government Services List to become the Public Sector Services List.
As the owners of LGSL and the "Family of Lists" that sit within esd-toolkit, esd-toolkit is spearheading this work. Initial consultation indicated that we target Children's Services and Emergency Services. These Children's Services that have been loaded into the viewer for consultation are those that already exist within LGSL and additional services identified by a workshop and a handful of practitioners already working in partnership in the identified service areas.
