Also known as esd-toolkit's "PID List", the Local Government Services List (LGSL) is a mature list which has, until version 3.00, defined UK local authority citizen facing services.
As Local Authorities are being asked to join up and deliver services across what was normally considered organisational boundaries, there is a corresponding need to expand the Local Government Services List to encompass these new processes. The LGSL is a standardised controlled list recognised by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as the standard measure of council services for Implementing Electronic Government (IEG) reporting http://www.esd.org.uk/standards/lgsl
In order to quantify, measure success and decide who and how a service is delivered it is necessary to list those individual instances of contact with the public in a standard format, which can be used and recognised by all partners. This type of listing already exists for the services that Local Government provides but now needs to be enhanced to include services delivered in partnership. This will eventually allow the Local Government Services List to become the Public Sector Services List.
As the owners of LGSL and the "Family of Lists" that sit within esd-toolkit, esd-toolkit is spearheading this work. Initial consultation indicated that we target Children's Services and Emergency Services. At the same time a need has been identified to extend the scope of LGSL to not only cover external services but also to include internal activities undertaken within a local authority. Most recently, Scottish authorities have collaborated to provide a list of Scottish-specific services.
As a result five subsets of LGSL are now available:

Children's services covers services provided by all agency types which relate to children

Emergency services covers services provided by all agency types which cover public emergencies

Internal services covers local authority (and potentially other agency types) internal services

LA external services includes all services in version 2.02 of LGSL (which was restricted to LA external services) plus any children's and emergency services which are provided by local authorities.

Scottish services includes all Scottish services.
